High level panel specialists will address the recent European and national regulatory developments, in the context of a highly competitive environment relating to blockchain, crypto-assets and web3.
In addition to the common law a.o. on consumer and data protection, financial regulation may apply to the issue and exchange of crypto-assets (e.g. investment instruments). Specific rules prohibit the marketing to individuals of derivatives on virtual currencies and, since 1st May 2022, providers of exchange platform services and virtual currency custodians must now be registered with the Belgian FSMA; moreover, a European regulation in preparation (MiCA) is intended to regulate the European market for crypto-assets, in particular issuers and service providers in this field.
